Solid, american-built compact car. introductionthe chevrolet cruze is an excellent choice among compact sedans. Inside, it has a roomy interior with attractive, quality materials, and it has a big trunk. It's an attractive car with relatively conservative, angular styling. Standard on all upper-level models, including the 2013 cruze ltz and 2013 cruze eco, mylink includes voice recognition technology, bluetooth streaming audio, and support for pandora and gracenote. Two new audio systems also appear on the 2013 chevrolet cruze, as well as new options and packages. An optional enhanced safety package for the 2013 cruze lt features a blind spot alert system, rear cross traffic alert and rear park assist. launched as a 2011 model, the cruze is a front-wheel-drive compact sedan developed jointly by gm tech centers in asia, europe and the united states to compete with the stylish hyundai elantra, sporty mazda3, and affordable kia forte, as well as the sales-leading compacts, the honda civic, ford focus and toyota corolla. the styling is conservative, though it's a well-designed, handsome car. The base cruze ls gets a 1. 8-liter inline-4 that makes 138 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. There's a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. fuel economy is very good from the turbocharged 1. 4-liter, at 26/38 mpg with both transmissions. Cruze eco rates an impressive 28/42 mpg with the manual transmission and 26/39 mpg with the automatic. Fuel economy for the 2013 chevrolet cruze with the base 1. 8-liter engine is an epa-rated 25/36 mpg city/highway with manual transmission and 22/35 mpg with the automatic. cruze eco's high fuel economy rating is thanks in part to its aerodynamic features, including grille vanes that close at highway speeds, which help it slip through the air more easily. It also weighs about 200 pounds less than other cruze models. Efficiency comes with a price, however, as the cruze eco sacrifices performance in the form of slower acceleration, longer stopping distances, and poorer handling compared to the less fuel-friendly cruze models. ride quality is outstanding, and we found the cruze handles exceptionally well. Also standard is onstar, which includes automatic crash notification, on-demand roadside assistance, remote door unlocking and stolen vehicle assistance. Blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert are optional for all cruzes except the ls. The 2013 chevrolet cruze gets a top five-star safety rating in government crash testing, and a top score of good from the insurance institute for highway safety. walkaroundthe styling of the chevrolet cruze is handsome and nicely proportioned. the cruze is large, as compact cars go. Measuring 181. 0 inches bumper-to-bumper, on a wheelbase of 105. 7 inches, the cruze is slightly larger than most of its competitors, including the honda civic, toyota corolla and ford focus. cruze is more angular than other recent chevrolet sedans, including the popular malibu. Its front end mimics the volt plug-in sedan with a prominent chevrolet bowtie logo. The headlight housings are large, sweeping upward and around the front edges of the car. the roofline arcs subtly from its steeply raked windshield through fast-sloping rear pillars, creating a generally sporty profile. Its wheels are pushed out to the corners of the car, with minimal overhang. No, this compact sedan doesn't break new ground or wow with its curves. But it's tidy and quite confidant looking, and the package generates a feeling of quality and solidity. Wheels range from 16-inch steel with plastic covers on the base ls to spoked 18-inch alloys with low-profile tires on the loaded ltz. the cruze eco is a slightly different beast from the other cruze models, because it's designed to be chevrolet's conventional-engine fuel economy leader. The differences start with 42 steps intended to trim weight, right down the size and location of welds in the body. As a result, the eco tips the scales at 3009 pounds, or 214 pounds less than the comparably equipped mid-level cruze lt. Cruze eco adds a host of aerodynamic tweaks, including some adapted from the chevrolet volt. These start with active grille shutters that close at higher speeds, blocking much of the grille surface when the cooling demands of the engine allow it, and smoothing air flow over the front of the car. The eco also sports a lower front air-dam extension, plastic panels that cover large portions of the underbody and a carefully crafted rear spoiler. It's finished with low-rolling-resistance tires on specially designed rims. That means a bit less braking performance or grip through the corners, but it also means less friction when the eco is cruising along for better fuel economy. interiorthe chevrolet cruze is roomy inside, with ample dimensions in most directions. The cabin is finished nicely with quality materials. Sound deadening measures result in quiet operation. Overall, the cruze cabin delivers an excellent balance of quality, coziness and space to breathe. cruze is near the top of the class for the look, fit and feel of the materials inside. The seams join with tighter tolerances than those in many other cars, including some of those a class or two above. The textiles and plastics are rich, appealing and nicely grained, and the metallic trim looks good. The fabric used for the door inserts matches that used on the seat cushions, and it flows from the doors across the bottom of the dash. It's unique, and visually inviting. the leather upholstery that's optional is thick, yet supple, and stretched tightly over the seats. The headliner is form fit with a soft, sturdy knit material, and it's only the outer layer of five in the roof's insulation. About the only thing not up to snuff is some hard plastic at the bottom of the door pillars, and while no one will look at it much, it's stands out as sub-par because everything else is so nice. The front-seat adjustments in the cruze allow occupants to find the right spot quickly and easily. 2008 chevrolet aveo review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Nice interior in an inexpensive package. introductionthe chevrolet aveo is chevy's smallest, least expensive car. Aside from its price, what's most attractive about aveo is its surprisingly handsome interior, at least on the up-level lt. Aveo's basic architecture and mechanical underpinnings date to 2004, and there are no significant changes for 2008. aveo was designed to offer sensible, day-to-day transportation. Its ride is tuned more for comfort than sporty driving, and this is where it differs from the frisky honda fit. But many of us spend more time commuting through heavy, stop-and-go traffic than challenging the nurburgring circuit. aveo is epa-estimated to deliver 24 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway. That's compares well with the hyundai accent (27/32 mpg), nissan versa (26/31). The honda fit (28/34) and toyota yaris (29/36) are more efficient but when it comes to purchase price look for better deals on the aveo. we found the aveo to be an enjoyable car to spend time with, particularly the lt with its nice cloth upholstery. The climate and audio controls are easy to use and the driver's seat adjusts for height and it drives well. Air conditioning is not included, although it can be installed by the dealer. Automatic transmission is not available, nor are power windows, locks, or mirrors. Perforated leatherette is optional 250). safety features include dual-stage frontal and seat-mounted side air bags for the front seats, along with front-seat seat-belt pretensioners, which take slack out of the belt in a crash. New for 2008 is a tire-pressure monitor. Anti-lock brakes 400) are optional for ls and lt; we strongly recommend getting them because they can help the driver maintain control in an emergency braking situation. walkaroundthe chevy aveo is about the same length as the toyota yaris, almost a foot shorter than the honda fit. The re-styling for 2008 gave the aveo a more aerodynamic shape, one of the benefits of which has been to reduce wind noise at highway speeds. up front, a thick, bright horizontal grille bar emblazoned with a gold bowtie leaves no doubt that aveo is a chevy. The lower fascia is nicely detailed, and the fog lights well integrated. Moving around to the side, a crisp bevel just below the window line and a parallel bulge down between the wheel arches combine to camouflage the aveo's tall, stubby profile, sort of like a person wearing appropriately directed stripes. The sedan's blacked-out window frames look heavy handed, however, especially with bright colors. Around back, a bright band between fashionably complex tail lamps echoes the theme of the grille. but like many cars, the aveo sedan has a look that tries to find wide acceptability by not offending anybody. But in its attempt to be neither too boring nor too radical, it lacks personality. the same cannot be said of the aveo5, which shares surprisingly little sheet metal with the sedan. It has personality all right, but it's not the kind everyone will like. At just 152. 7 inches in overall length, the aveo5 is a significant 17 inches shorter than the sedan, and despite some fairly ambitious, curvy sculpturing in the doors and rear quarters (contrasting with the crisp feel of the sedan), it all seems to end rather abruptly, just behind the rear wheels. This impression is greatly heightened by a rear-end profile that's more station-wagon vertical than hatchback sleek, and by the almost comically abbreviated quarter windows just behind the rear doors. About the best chevy can hope is that the resulting rubber-duck ugliness appeals to grownups still missing their favorite tub toy. interestingly, while the aveo5 looks as tall as a bus, it actually measures 0. 4 inches lower than the sedan. All radios come with an auxiliary jack for ipods and other mp3 players. the driver's seat is height adjustable, even in the special value model, a nice feature for drivers short and tall. The front seat bottom cushion is a bit short for drivers with long legs, cutting some occupants a little short on thigh support. rear legroom is an advantage the aveo has over the honda fit and toyota yaris. That's competitive in a segment like this, and the back seat folds down if the priority becomes carrying stuff instead of people. the aveo5 hatchback has just 7. 0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, but that expands to a wagon-like 42. 0 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The aveo would be a bad choice for a tight pass on a two-lane road, but with a little thought and planning there shouldn't be any problems merging onto a busy freeway, even with a passenger. we've always been more impressed with the chevrolet aveo's ride than its handling. A thicker front sway bar, stiffer front springs, tighter front shocks, and re-tuned bushings, improved the handling beginning with the 2007 model. Like many front-wheel-drive cars, the aveo feels nose heavy when driven hard, and it doesn't offer the responsive handling found in the honda fit. Try and go fast through a moderately tight turn and the aveo's body leans quite a bit. That's part of the price for a more comfortable ride, particularly on a broken surface. The exception is when the driver slams the accelerator pedal to the floor and holds it there. The chevrolet aveo sedan combines a fuel efficient engine, seating for 5, ample cargo space and a host of standard and optional features for a very affordable price. The front-wheel drive aveo 4-door sedan is available in two trims. The ls comes standard with power steering, body colored mirrors, 14 inch wheels, front cloth bucket seats, air conditioning and an am/fm radio. The lt trim adds power mirrors, windows and door locks with remote keyless entry. The lt also comes standard with interior and exterior chrome accents, 1.
